WHAT TYPE OF SALT IS LURKING ON YOUR TABLE?

With the New Year in full swing, it's time to talk about the best products to stock your pantry for the Healthiest Year Yet!  Inevitably, salt always hits high on that list.

Salt We know that salt should be consumed in moderation, but did you know that traditional table salt is terrible for our bodies?  Some call it toxic, poisonous, and responsible in part to a number of diseases.

Table salt is refined- which means it is put through a harsh chemical process to clean. During that process, it is stripped of important minerals.  Years ago, manufacturers began adding anti-clumping agents to increase its shelf life and even started bleaching the salt because consumers preferred it to be "white" in color.

As you take your family's health to new levels this year, it's time to throw your table salt away!

UNREFINED salt (the best kind), has not been put through this process.  Unrefined salts contain over 80 trace minerals that are good for your health.

The best salt to buy is Himalayan Pink Salt.  It is one of the purest salts found on earth and compares to no other (not even sea salt).   You can find Himalayan Pink Salt at Whole Foods, local health food stores, some local grocery stores (in the healthy food section), and Online.

The price of Himalayan Pink Salt is also very reasonable.  A 6oz bottle is about $6 and can last 6-12 months.  That's a pretty inexpensive trade-up in my book.

Here's a super easy recipe to put your Himalayan Pink Salt to use:

Zucchini Chips:

Ingredients:

2 zucchini, thinly sliced

1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Coconut Oil

1 Tsp Salt

1 pinch Pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°.
  2. In a large bowl, lightly drizzle zucchini with oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat. Place coated slices in a single layer on an oven proof wire rack coated with cooking spray; place rack on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until browned and crisp. Serve immediately.
