“Back to School” Breakfast for Kids (that will actually keep them full)

Do you ever find your kids eating all...the...time?  Eating breakfast and then hungry an hour later?  If you haven't already, make sure to check out our interview with Lisa Lineberg on the Paleo Diet and how the low fat diet is making us fat (around 15:45 in the video).

We make a concerted effort to steer clear of sugary cereals for breakfast.  Our breakfast routine at home is pretty simple- plain cheerios with low-fat organic milk, and a banana.  Seems like a good start.  But while it's low in fat, the lowest in sugar on the cereal market, and gives a small dose of nutrients, it still doesn't hold my children over until lunch.  Within an hour or two, they're ready for the next snack and the vicious cycle begins.  Case in point to Lisa's comments about the low fat diet.

With school just around the corner, I have been testing a number of new breakfast items.  This low-carb bacon, egg, and cheese cup has become a new kid-favorite.  Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Tart Surprisingly, one tart and a piece of fruit will keep the kids satiated for a few hours.

As always, it's important to watch the quality of ingredients that you use.  Farm fresh eggs and  nitrate-free bacon (or uncured bacon) are important. Pre-cooked bacon is not recommended.

Here's a video I recently shot for eHow.com on the egg tart preparation.  I presented two different cooking applications in case your kids prefer crispy bacon.  Simply click the photo or link below to start the video.
